My favorite Pokemon is probably Garchomp! I have fond memories of getting my ass beat by Cynthia's Garchomp when I was a kid. It's been my favorite since! I also really like Altaria (so fluffy) and Mimikyu.

Do you laugh at Youtube poops?

Sure, when I was a kid. I haven't watched one since. I guess the closest I've gotten to watching YT poops as an adult is Brutalmoose's review videos.

Nah, I actually rarely listen to things when I'm working on my site. I usually work in silence or I'll listen to game soundtracks. My go-to is the RimWorld OST and specifically, the soundtrack for P-Music, a RimWorld mod I like.

Nah, but I think it's fun. I always like blaming Mercury for being in retrograde whenever something bad happens. (Is Mercury actually in retrograde? Who knows!)

Not really. I had a witchcraft phase during my late teens but it was just that, a phase. I'm not a very spiritual person, I suppose. I do respect people who believe in it, however. I never really understood why certain beliefs (i.e. specific religions) are treated seriously while others aren't.

Opinions on Vocaloid?

I liked listening to some Vocaloid music when I was tween/teen. I think my favorite song was probably Mozaik Role. I liked GUMI's and IA's voices the best. Haven't really listened to any since, but I find Vocaloid to be very nostalgic.

Would you ever want to be a rockstar?

Hell no. If I was a famous musician, I'd never tour. All you get is me tossing an album out before scuttling back to my hidey-hole.

Do you easily get stressed?

Yes. ._. I suppose that's why I'm so gung-ho about journaling. It's my coping mechanism. That being said, I'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be. In my late teens, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Thankfully, that's not really an issue anymore and I consider myself 'recovered' from anxiety and depression.

What was your favorite class in high school?

Art! I also enjoyed English and History. I did IB when I was in high school, so my classes were mainly stressful and with heavy workloads lol.

Not particularly. I was raised Christian but I don't consider myself religious. I had an edgy atheist phase as a teen but now I'd say I have a more healthy relationship with Christianity, where I don't need to be all edgy to cope with religious trauma lol. Still don't think too highly of organized religions in general though.

Opinions on nightcore?

I don't really get it tbh.

Did you go through any major phase? (emo, goth, weeaboo, etc.)

I was a weeb in middle school and a little bit of high school. By college I grew out of it and now I often find myself getting annoyed by the ubiquity of anime lol. A lot of modern anime fans are pretty insufferable and I especially can't stand the coomer male ones. I kind of miss when anime was more niche. I think it's cool that it's mainstream now and people are appreciating 2D animation, especially when 2D is dead/niche in western media, but good gravy, modern anime fans are sooo annoying lmao.

Are you good at drawing?

I'm alright I guess. Lots to improve though. Little kid me would be impressed by my art skills but current me looks at my art and goes, "Ah, this shit is ass."

Do you crack your joints?

Yes but generally not on purpose. If I roll my wrists or ankles/feet, they'll naturally crack. My knees will also pop on occasion when I get up. I have a very creaky body and always had since I was a kid. Exercise hasn't really made any difference. I don't crack my knuckles or anything.

Do you read visual novels?

No, I think they're boring lol. My latest attempt was Homicipher around when it came out, but I dropped it shortly after. Not for me, but I'm happy for all of the Homicipher girlies.

Can you sew?

Not really. I know the basics of hand-sewing but my stitches are an absolute mess. At best, I can make a half-assed but functional repair of clothes if need be. When I was in college, I would sleep with an eye mask because I lived in the dorms. I had to repair its stitches several times because I was too cheap to buy a new one.

Can you cook?

Sorta? I'm not very good and am an impatient chef, but I do live on my homecooked meals. It saves money and is healthier than eating out.

Most expensive thing you bought?

I'm interpreting this as for-fun object purchases and not boring, big ol' bills. In that case, various tech-related purchases probably.

Opinions on cosplay?

I don't really have any opinions. I think people that handcraft their costumes are very admirable but cosplay isn't something I really engage with or pay attention to.

What's your most hated band/musician?

While at university, I had a specific playlist I would loop on end whenever I needed to focus. It contained only one song, "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran. I despise that song, so I essentially tortured myself by listening to it over and over again to force myself to work lmao. It was an absolute relief when I finished my work and I could turn off that playlist. In general, I don't really like country or metal. I don't like 'loud' songs where it's just essentially noise. My brother is a big fan of Meshuggah, but I think their songs just sound like loud noise lol.

Are you a dramatic person?

On occasion, yes, but it's mainly for entertainment or humor purposes. I'll be super dramatic to make my friends laugh. :)

Do you have a celebrity crush?

No, I don't have a high opinion of celebrities or celebrity culture. When I was a kid, I had a crush on Keira Knightley though. I was utterly enamored with her in Pirates of the Caribbean. We also have a similar face shape and so seeing her made me feel more secure about my jawline lol. It was something I was insecure about when I was really young. I remember in elementary school, I would slightly suck in my cheeks to try to make my face look smaller, which is extremely sad. At the time, the only models you would see were (white) women with narrow faces, so it was something I had internalized and was insecure about. When I first saw Keira, I thought she was the prettiest woman I had ever seen, so I'll forever have a soft spot for her.

Do you like snow?

I used to hate snow but I've come to appreciate it. Going for a walk while it's snowing, with everything all quiet and the lighting all soft, is a magical experience. It's probably my favorite part of winter. (Unfortunately, it doesn't snow a lot where I live.) However, driving in the snow and dealing with the ice is incredibly inconvenient.

Meh, I think I'm okay. Words with ei or ie tend to trip me up. For instance, I always second-guess myself whenever I spell receive.

I don't really know anything about Touhou aside from listening to a few fan remixes over the years. I think Marisa's design is nice and I have a soft spot for Flandre because my first exposure to Touhou was in middle school, when I encountered a remix of her theme. I also like Reisen's theme.

Do you think there's going to be a robot takeover?

No, but I do think personal privacy/rights are going to be curtailed and mass surveillance will expand unless the political landscape in the US changes drastically to the point that we can get politicians not paid for by corporations to enact actual change. I also think LLMs are a dead-end when it comes to achieving AGI, but corporations will continue to use AI as an excuse to cut costs (and offshore more). The future is looking grim. :)

Has science gone too far?

In what way? In medicine and other hard sciences, I think it can go further. For tech specifically, I have mixed thoughts about AI. In general, I think the primary issue is the way it's used to undercut human labor and oppress workers, rather than uplift them.

Would you be an angel or devil?

An angel I guess? Idk hell doesn't seem particularly fun and despite me having certain feelings towards specific people, I don't like to watch people suffer or to mislead them.

I also don't particularly care for the soundtrack and when I read a plot summary, I don't really get the hype? Idk, maybe you just have to play it, or maybe the story is extra-impressive if you don't read books lol.

I wouldn't want to have a wedding. I lowkey can't stand them lol. But I guess Canon in D? A boring answer, but it has sentimental value. When I was in 5th grade, I had to learn how to play it for orchestra. My dad was helping me practice (he's been a musician his entire life and played the trumpet professionally at one point), and I remember complaining that I'll never get it right. Anyway, fast forward a few months, and for our concert, we played Canon in D and I played it perfectly. I remember my dad crying in the audience as he watched me. :')

As a kid, I had a fear of closing doors at night, where I'd be afraid that as I closed a door, something would suddenly push back and try to get in. A very specific fear. (Tbh, I'm still a little afraid of that lmao.) I was also afraid of tornadoes and had many nightmares involving them, even though I grew up in an area that didn't really get tornadoes, and when it did, they were like itty bitty baby F0-F1 tornadoes.

What's one of your guilty pleasures?

I don't use social media anymore, but there are a couple social media accounts I'll occasionally check on because I don't like them. Never interacted with them, I'm just a hater from afar lol.

Yes, I have a dog plush named Spot that I got in elementary school. My mom took me to the mall to clothes shop and was exasperated when all I wanted was the dog plushie. I sleep with her wedged between my chest because it's more comfortable than sleeping without her lol.

Being a consoomer/buying shit as a hobby. I can understand if you buy something and have some use for it. What I don't get is buying stuff just for the sake of owning it.

No, not really. The only alcohol I like is fruity mixed drinks, like daiquiris. I don't really drink anyway because it's bad for you, and I'm pretty sure I have a slight alcohol intolerance. Also for some reason, I can't fall asleep after I drink, even if it was just one drink.

No. I never got my ears pierced as a kid because my mom told me it's a sin (never mind the fact that her ears are pierced), and I never bothered to now. I don't really like wearing jewelry, anyway. But maybe one day I'll get them pierced. I think lobe piercings and maybe a helix piercing would be nice.

Have you ever been in a physical fight?

I would fight with my brothers all the time as a kid. Does that count? They were generally stronger than me but I made up for that by being more vicious lmao.

Where do you buy your clothes?

I actually haven't bought any new clothes in years. My clothes are generally fast-fashion from places like Ross, H&M, AE, A&F, F21, Uniqlo, and Costco. I also bought a few things from secondhand stores. I plan on just wearing what I own, no matter how 'untrendy' they may be, and slowly replace them with more ethical pieces. I take really good care of my clothes, so it looks like it'll take me literal years, maybe even a decade, to replace my wardrobe at this point. It probably helps that pretty much everything I own was bought pre-Covid, when fast fashion was still decent quality.

Where would you live if you could live anywhere?

Uhhh... idk? Maybe SoCal or New England? There's this Youtuber I follow, emmie, and she lives near-ish Toronto. Wherever she lives, it's absolutely gorgeous, but idk if I'd like to live in Canada. I also think living in a small village or in the countryside in the UK could be nice.

No, but I swear on a handful of occasions, I've had dreams about the future and then, later on, my exact dream comes to pass. Idk if it's just intense deja vu, or what. (My dreams aren't about anything important. They're just specific mundane situations that I'll later find myself in. For instance, I once had a dream as a kid where I was sitting in the back of a car at night and the car had a very specific dashboard and center console. Months later, when I was visiting family, I found myself in that exact scenario, riding in the back of my uncle's car at night and staring at his softly lit dashboard/console.)

Youtube (Revanced) or Spotify. I refuse to pay for Spotify, so I'll listen for free on my desktop browser. I used to use a modified mobile version called Spotifuck, but that recently stopped working lmao. In general, I rip music from Youtube using yt-dl and save them as high-quality mp3 files to my phone. My favorite songs and music pieces are saved as ultra-high quality flacs.

What's the biggest city you've been to?

I've never actually had an energy drink before. I think I have a slight caffeine intolerance, so I'm too afraid to. (When I first started drinking coffee, I would get heart palpatations. At most, I can only drink one cup or else I'll feel horrible.)

I do not like gacha and think it's a bane on the video game industry and society in general.

I'm usually in bed by 11 or 12.

How often do you wash your hair?

<.< >.> Since this is a safe space, I will admit that I wash my hair daily. I know, I know! You're not supposed to do that! But my head just gets so greasy otherwise. (And before you say that that's because I wash daily, no, it's not! I didn't always wash daily and my hair was still greasy. I just have a giga oily scalp, I guess.) I'll take slightly dry but otherwise healthy hair over a greasy scalp any day. But it is annoying having to wash daily. Because of this, it's really hard for me to shower quickly. On average, I clock in at around 15 minutes. I have really thick hair and a lot of it, so I have to take special care while washing. If I don't, there literally will be oily spots on my scalp that weren't cleaned because I have so much hair that it essentially insulates those spots. My shampoo can't penetrate down to my scalp unless I carefully massage it in and lift strands of hair around while doing so. Conversely, I can apply conditioner pretty much anywhere without worrying about my scalp getting greasy from it.

Would you download a car?

I learned to sail the high seas when I was a kid and I still occasionally sail as an adult. Yohoho!

What was your favorite show as a kid?

Winx Club. I would watch the 4Kids dub of that and Tokyo Mew Mew/Mew Mew Power. I also really liked the old Spongebob episodes, before the movie came out. I watched a lot of PBS as a kid (we didn't have cable at my mom's house), and I liked Cyberchase.

What's the silliest hat you own?

I don't own any hats. I have a large head, so regular baseball caps tend to squeeze my temples. In general, I don't like anything on or around my head, which is also why I rarely ever style my hair outside of a simple ponytail.

What album/song do you listen to when you're feeling angsty?

I don't listen to anything in particular. My taste in music remains constant, regardless of my mood. I will say that "Fourth of July" by Sufjan Stevens and "Little Bird" by Mree are very sad songs, though.

Yes! I've always had OCs, ever since I was a little girl. Maybe one day I'll share more about them... >.>

What's the goofiest thing you do when completely alone?

I enjoy pacing around. Idk if that's goofy though.

I think they're very beautiful, but I hate the air pollution and sudden loud noises. Fourth of July is one of my least favorite holidays, because for like a month around it, there will be fireworks going off almost every night.

Please introduce yourself

Hullo I'm Sunnie. This is my website, obviously.

How long have you been making websites?

This is the first and only website I've ever made, so since 2022. I had some rudimentary knowledge of html/css from tumblr themes, as well as customizable profiles on old-school sites.

And what got you into the hobby?

I made this during the pandemic because I was bored lol. I had sworn off all social media pre-pandemic, but I missed interacting with other people online.

What kind of website are you most interested in?

Sites that reflect the personality of the webmaster. I care more for content over design. I'm uninterested in sites that are 'superficial,' all looks but nothing else. I enjoy reading the writing of others, from reviews to personal diary reflections. I don't particularly care for oldweb revival-specific sites or sites that are glorified carrds. I also get a little annoyed browsing sites that have navigation gimmicks. Please give me a site map and let me browse in peace!

What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

I generally design as I go. For large-scale site overhauls, I might draw out a rough sketch in CSP, but otherwise I code by the seat of my pants and make or find assets as needed. I usually have a clear vision of what I want in mind, so it doesn't require much planning. It's more translating that vision to reality, all while being limited by my relatively shallow knowledge of html, css, and javascript.

I think Cabbage was the first site I ever followed. I'm also inspired by Sue, Lune, Lapin, and Marin.

What's your favourite part about making websites?

I enjoy translating what I envisioned to reality. Seeing the process as everything comes together is immensely satisfying. I also enjoy the flow state I often enter while working on my site. That's part of the reason why I usually don't listen to anything while working on my site. I find music interrupts my flow state or makes it more 'shallow.' It's said that you can only manage about four hours of deep work per day, but when I'm in the zone, I can work on my site for hours on end without breaks.

And the thing you struggle with the most?

Using my limited knowledge of html/css/javascript to accomplish what I want. Often times, I know exactly what I want to do, but I won't know exactly how to do it. But that's part of the problem-solving process, which is fun in and of itself. I don't concern myself with 'good' or 'proper' design, so I'm more than willing to use a jank solution if it achieves what I want.

Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

Both! The layouts I use are function-first. I choose them based on what I want to accomplish or what the purpose of the page is.

How confident are you with CSS?

I'm okay at it, I guess. I'm not very creative when it comes to css, I feel.

Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

I don't think I've actually ever used <dl> before. This questionnaire was originally formatted as such, but I converted it to an ordered list to match the formatting of the previous questionnaire. But I'm confident I could easily use <dl>.

What is your favourite HTML element?

As mentioned in the prior questionnaire, <ol> and <ul>. I love making lists and now I can add <dl> to the mix, yippee!

If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

First, I think about what the purpose of the page is and what I want the content to be. Then, I decide on a format suitable for it and construct a basic layout in my mind.

Do you know JavaScript?

I use little snippets of JS here and there, but I don't actually *know* it the way I know Java or C/C++. I do find JS to be very easy to read and understand, thanks to my experience with other programming languages.

How about PHP?

Nope. Neocities doesn't support backend stuff, so there's no need for me to. My experience with learning web dev has been very needs-based. I learn what I need to as I go along and am unconcerned with learning things 'properly.' It's been a very fun and freeing experience, compared to my formal education in computer science. Of course, the downside is that my code is giga-jank, but I suppose that adds to the charm of it.

Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

Yes, my current theme is centered around the seasons. I try to stick to a vibe that represents the core of what 'halcyon days' means to me and always have, since the very beginning. My first site theme was very purple with falling stars, bringing to mind those nights that feel so slow and magical. My second theme was green and rainy, with a very clean yet chill vibe. My third theme was summer-themed, drawing inspiration from lazy summer afternoons and evenings. And this is my fourth theme!

Are you more focused on content or design?

Definitely content. Design is an afterthought, and I don't consider myself to be a particularly good designer. I view my site as being pretty slapdash in nature lol. As long as my site looks fine for me, that's good enough. I'll occasionally check and make sure things look decent on Microsoft Edge, but aside from that, I don't take into consideration other resolutions or screen sizes. No and I'm indifferent to the idea. If I ever decide to move hosts off of Neocities, then I'll obviously get one. I'd probably change my domain name because I've never been wild about 'alcedonia.' It lowkey sounds like a medical condition, like anhedonia lmao.

What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

I think they can appear neat at first, but I often find them to be pretty repetitive and lacking in content. They're also usually a little annoying to navigate, which doesn't help lol. To be honest, I don't really have much nostalgia for retro-themed websites, because when they were actually around, I was poor and a kid who didn't have access to the Internet. So in terms of nostalgia-bait, they do nothing for me. I also think it's a little amusing that a lot of people making these sites were either too young to fully appreciate them or weren't even born. It's like the blind leading the blind, trying to replicate something you've never experienced. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that, but I also think that's why so many of them feel so repetitive. They're just regurgitating the same graphics, the same layouts, and the same aesthetic.

Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

Uh... I guess? My IDE doesn't throw any errors or warnings, so there's that. I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to making sure all of my brackets/tags are closed, if that's what you mean.

What are your opinions on buttons and banners?

I think they're super cute! I admire everyone who makes their own customized and animated buttons/banners. I'd like to one day, but I'm a little intimidated by it. My pixel art skills are also practically nonexistant.

What do you think of button walls in particular?

I think they're fine! If I really like a site, I'll go through all of the sites linked in their button wall. I will say that huge button walls can be visually overstimulating, however.

If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

I'd probably make something almost identical. I have a very specific taste in terms of aesthetics, so that wouldn't differ much, and there's nothing I'd want to change content-wise, aside from adding more, more, more!

Are you envious of other people's websites?

Sometimes, but it's a positive form of envy, not a negative one. I get inspired and pushed to work on my site more! :)

What text editor do you use?

Visual Studio Code. I like that I can view changes in real-time with it.

Why do you use that one?

It's the same IDE I use for work so I'm very familiar with it lol.

Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

Own server. I went through a phase briefly where I hosted stuff on Catbox, but Catbox is a bit iffy when it comes to service uptime.

This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

I view Nekoweb as being Neocities' more childish younger sibling (which is saying something because Neocities is already pretty immature). It's an offshoot, isn't it? In general, I don't really browse there, but I like Nekoweb's global rss feed and custom preview images. Maybe I should poke my nose in and browse a little. I think I'm just limiting myself otherwise.

How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

My site is currently sitting at 341.92 MB. I could definitely shrink it by optimizing images. The photos from my Korea trip in particular take up a ton of space. I'll get around to doing that... one day.

Do you keep local backups of your files?

Yes. All of my work is done locally and then uploaded to Neocities when I'm ready to update. (I think people that edit straight on Neocities are lowkey kinda freaky.) I even keep copies of older versions of pages. For instance, I have index.html, indexOLD.html, and indexOLDOLD.html.

Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

I'm fine with both! I don't like maximalist sites, where there are graphics everywhere and it's all cluttered. I'll immediately click off if a site is too visually overwhelming.

Do you stick to certain colors? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

Yes. My site is currently themed around the seasons so I'll pick colors representing that. I will say I tend to prefer four basic colors: red (or pink), yellow, green, and blue. The shades and how much I'll use one color over the other depend on the current theme. As I'm writing this, the theme is spring, so there's lots of pink and green.

Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

Occasionally, yes. I've had this site since 2022, but I've taken long breaks over those years, where I won't update for months. Life happens and I lose motivation to work on my site, but it exists in the back of my mind, like an itch. I've thought about quitting sometimes during those breaks, but I know if I did, I'd probably come crawling back with a new site lmao.

Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

I have webmistresses I hold in high regard, but I suppose it's mainly a solitary hobby. I'm really bad at maintaining online connections... I've always been a lurker, which is partially why I quit social media. Reaching out has always been a struggle. I'm just not good at communicating online, I think. I get anxious in a way that I don't irl. It probably doesn't help that I don't have a Discord or anything, so getting ahold of me can be difficult. I used to have a Discord account, but the last time I accessed it was before they removed name tags, so I'm uncertain if it even still exists anymore. Maybe I should make another Discord account or something. But the thought of having to check Discord again does not spark joy. Ahh but maybe one day, I'll make some friends... ;w;

Nope and I intend to keep it private. This site is a secret between you and me!

Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?

Lol. Lmao, even. I'd say "very often" for me is twice a month. Ideally, I'd like to update at least once a month. With all of the long breaks I've taken, I'm pretty sure if you average my update time, it spans once every two or three months. Maybe even four months. I don't get how people update their sites so often, but I suppose I also have a habit of collecting everything into one big update. I don't like updating with small changes here and there. It makes me feel antsy and embarrassed, for some reason. Even pushing one singular book review makes me unhappy. I dunno why.

And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

Well, this is currently version four of my site, so I suppose I overhaul things once a year or so. I think the general layout has stayed mostly consistent, however.

Not often and I've only received a handful of emails. Maybe I should be more proactive and email some people or something. Could be fun. (And also anxiety-inducing.)

I've talked about this several times before but no, I don't really keep social media. I deleted my Facebook and Twitter accounts during the mid-late 2010s, during the first Trump administration. As I've said, I'm mainly a lurker so I didn't get much use out of them, anyway. And anytime I'd log on, I'd become stressed and unhappy. This was also during a time where it felt like there was a new data breach every week, so I just nuked everything. I have a Youtube account I solely watch videos on (I don't even comment), a Pinterest account filled with private boards, and I kept my old Tumblr account but I don't actually do anything with it. I mainly use it to lurk and find images to save. If you looked at my blog, for all intents and purposes, it'd look like it was abandoned years ago and is inactive. I kind of like that it's a time capsule to the mid 2010s, as much as it makes me cringe. Lots of keysmashing and Overwatch fanart towards the end lmao.

How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

Nope. I communicate with friends via old-fashioned text message. I've used KakaoTalk on occasion while traveling out of country, but that's it, and I always uninstall it when I get back to the US.

Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?

Copied and pasted my answer from the prior questionnaire: Nah, I actually rarely listen to things when I'm working on my site. I usually work in silence or I'll listen to game soundtracks. My go-to is the RimWorld OST and specifically, the soundtrack for P-Music, a RimWorld mod I like.

All on one site! I can barely manage one site. Having more than one sounds like a lot of work.

Well... the opposite of what I said above. I think people should also stop importing mainstream social media nonsense to the smallweb. Like, DNIs, content policing, etc. If you want that, you should go back. (Of course, me saying this is a little hypocritical, given I talked earlier about a tendency to self-censor. :^) But I'm working on it!)

Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

I don't concern myself with semantic HTML. If I do use it, it's primarily by accident lol.

Do you consider different browsers?

I'll check if things look okay on Microsoft Edge, since Windows forcefully installs that browser. Sorry Chrome friends, but you're on your own.

Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

Firefox! You can install lots of neat extensions on it, and adblock always works! Also, it's not Chromium-based. There was a point when Chrome was faster than Firefox, but I feel like at this point, Chrome has become so bloated with hostile design choices, and I think Firefox has gotten better.

And what OS are you on?

Windows 10.

Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

I'm clinging on to 10 as long as I can because Windows 11 sucks. (Which is funny because I also hate 10. It just seems better by comparison.) I've used Linux before, but there are certain programs I use that make Linux infeasible, and I think MacOS is a baby OS for babies (I do like that it's UNIX-based. I prefer that over DOS). Although Mac is looking better by the day as Microsoft keeps ruining everything.

Are your websites mobile-friendly?

Not in the slightest. It's only kinda viewable if you switch to desktop mode and even then, parts are cut off or formatted weirdly. I'd like to redo everything one day to at least make it somewhat viewable but that's like, on the bottom of my to-do list. Given how everything nowadays is mobile-centric, I think phone users can stand to be oppressed on occasion.

What are your thoughts on autoplay?

Annoying and I don't know why people still do it. That being said, my speakers are always muted when I'm browsing, so I've never been jumpscared by autoplay.

What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?

I'm in a few and would like to join more someday. I prefer webrings that are specific to a certain topic rather than general ones. Those are more fun to browse in my opinion. I'm not a fan of webrings that have rigid rules to police your content. They just kind of feel like hall monitors or an extension of social media, with their own 'terms of service' lol. There are certainly many sites whose content I don't care for or even think is outright disgusting, but I just don't interact with them! Don't like? Then ignore! And if a webring was proliferated with these types of sites, I would probably shrug and not join. Clearly, it's not the ring for me. So when webrings do have all of these rules, it just makes them seem like petty little tyrants to me lol.

Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

I had a Splatoon shrine I made near the start of my site. I took it down because it was very rudimentary. I was also in the process of making a Pokemon shrine, but never got around to finishing it. I think shrines are really cool and a great way to showcase the interests and personality of the webmaster! Even if I don't care about the topic, I love seeing other people passionate about the things they like! I currently have no shrines on my site, but I have a list of things I'd like to make shrines about one day!

Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?

Hmmm... maybe? Not sure! Being 'original' and an NLOS (not like other sites) aren't things I focus on. I care more about being 'genuine' and having fun and passion about the things I write about.

What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?

My ideal website is a site with a wide breadth of topics that are all connected by the passion of the webmaster. It is a site that isn't focused solely on media 'consumption' but also analysis and creation. Ideally, it would also be the site of an artist, filled with drawings and pages dedicated to their OCs, stories, and worlds. And yes, this is a site that I strive for! (It's been really slow going, however, and in my four years at it, I feel like I haven't even gotten close.)

Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?

Yes, but I don't consider myself to be a particularly skilled one! I'm also a very lazy artist, so I draw rather infrequently. The little (unpolished) doodles you see are drawn by me!

What are your favourite resource sites?

For documentation, I check Mozilla's web docs. For graphics, I'll check Foollovers or browse Pinterest and then spend an inordinate amount of time trying to hunt down the original source lol.

Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?

Instead of defining css in a stylesheet, like I should, I'll often stylize something directly where I declared it. I do this the most often with images I'm trying to center. It's a very bad habit and also bad coding practice.

What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?

Just go for it! Start with a template, as that's easiest, and go from there. I first started out with a template from Foollovers, so that's where I'd recommend you look. Start simple and then build out. Imagine your site as a little seedling that will grow and blossom over time. Inspect the code of pages you like and see how other people did things so you can adapt that to your own site. I'd caution you from copying things outright, however. Copying bits and bobs is fine, but copying essentially an entire site is tacky and might get you in trouble unless you have permission from whoever you copied from. Also don't copy personal assets without explicit permission. That's just rude!

Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?

I have stylesheets but, as I've mentioned, I have a bad habit of hard-coding on occasion. >.>

What do you think of frameset layouts?

I don't know what that is.

How about table-based layouts?

I don't think I've encountered many table-based layouts. Seems a bit old-fashioned, no?

Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

I use whatever best fits an individual page. I don't concern myself with thinking about columns specifically, and it's not something I generally notice while browsing a site. I'm not like, "Ah, this boring bitch is using a three-column layout. Yawn." That just seems weird.

Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

If you don't count me writing out actual text, then CSS. CSS and I have a very hot/cold relationship and we are often not on speaking terms.

Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

Once, when I was first starting out, I made a page with no CSS and went, "Ah this shit is ugly," and promptly added CSS. I don't think it'd be useful for my thoughts because I would get distracted by how it looks. I like something that is, at the very least, easy on the eyes.

Only as I need them. I actually don't really like designing layouts. It's not my idea of fun.

Mmm. Outside of stuff that's career related, not really. I have a bunch of old technology, but that's more from a result of living during that time and not me going out of my way to collect it. I think it's neat to collect older tech, but I don't like people that hoard it. Like you know, the ones that have a billion different copies of an old game console, so people actually looking to buy and play one can't. That sort of thing.

How often and for how long are you online?

I work remotely so all day, every day. I think that's part of the reason why I don't browse the smallweb that much. I just want to be off my computer sometimes, you know? Also looking at screens all day is lowkey ruining my eyesight.

The fuck is that? I skim-read the W3Schools article about XHTML vs HTML, and it just seems like a more strict version of HTML? I already mostly do all of those things required of XHTML, but I don't really get the point of it.

Yes, I do it for a living. In general, I don't really do it for fun anymore, aside from tinkering around in the Unreal Engine. And no, I've never written anything strictly for my site, outside of basic JS. I don't really see the point, given the limitations of Neocities.

Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?

Never used one and I don't know much about them. I think they're pretty useful for beginners?

No, and I don't particularly care. I think focusing on numbers like that would take the fun out of this hobby.

I'll lurk on them occasionally, but that's about it. Some are video games related, several are tech related, and one is gossip related (no, it's probably not the one you're thinking of).

Directly into the editor. Then, from my site preview, I'll copy and paste text into an online grammar checker to look for grammar or spelling mistakes. Although I can be a bit lazy about this and will often not change things, even if they're not 100% grammatically-correct, for stylistic reasons.

Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?

Uhhh... I don't think so? I don't think a person who often says 'yippee' is particularly cool.

A little bit and yes, I've deleted my old shrine because I didn't like it anymore. (A copy of it still lives on my hard drive, however.)

This is unpopular and also very hypocritical, because I hate when people do this, but yeah I'd probably delete everything. I *might* keep an archive of certain things, but I don't like having loose ends. It makes me itchy. I also firmly believe that people should have a right to be forgotten online.

More secretive, I think. I present a very curated version of myself.
